Much of the credit goes to our driver and guide, Abu, a truly exceptional person. Abu is an expert driver who knows the savanna like the back of his hand. His professionalism, combined with an overwhelming passion for his work, made the safari special: he did everything to help us spot as many animals as possible, finding them even in the most unexpected places. Watching him at work was incredible. Impeccable organization and an experience that will stay in our hearts forever. Thanks Abu We went on a two-day safari with one night out, guided by Abu, unique and irreplaceable! We only have positive thoughts and words for this experience, which, also and above all thanks to Abu, was even more unique. He guided us through the park with incredible dedication and mastery of the vehicle and the road. He was very busy getting in touch with his colleagues and rushing to the sighting location to show us as much as possible, and thanks to him we managed to see practically every animal possible, multiple times and even for long periods. The only note I feel I should make is a recommendation: if you suffer a lot from motion sickness, keep in mind that the road to get to the park, like those inside it, are obviously unpaved and therefore full of holes, rocks, and the like; consequently, the car ride is very turbulent, and as much as the driver tries, it is impossible to expect a 'smooth' journey during this experience. I met Amedeo several years ago in Kenya and despite the distance, we have always stayed in touch. This year we decided to return to Watamu and obviously we relied on him from Italy, and I can say with all my heart that we could not have made a better choice. Amedeo organized everything with incredible care, accompanying us step by step and making us feel at ease even before leaving. Once we arrived in Kenya, however, we truly understood how special he was. He was there for us at every moment: for the transfer, for the stay, for the beach, for advice, for showing us the most beautiful places, and above all for our safety. But the thing I will never forget is that, when I had a problem during the vacation, Amedeo didn't back down for even a second. He took action immediately, handled everything, and stayed by our side until everything was resolved. In that moment, I realized that we didn't just have a person who had organized our trip: we had a friend by our side. And then the safari… 🐘🦒❤️ A wonderful experience, organized to perfection, and one that will remain among our family's most beautiful memories. But if I had to describe Amedeo with a single word, I would choose “reliable.” Because when you are far from home, knowing you have someone by your side you can call, who listens to you, who takes care of you, and who doesn't leave you alone, is truly worth so much. The first time we were in Watamu, 14 years ago, it was just my wife and me, and we met Amedeo outside a resort. He organized a wonderful safari for us, and since then, he has remained an irreplaceable point of reference. This time, returning to Watamu, we organized everything with him in advance: safari, excursion to the Gede ruins, to the Marafa Canyon, and to Malindi. Everything went simply perfectly, with a spectacular and very well-prepared safari guide. But the thing that most of all shows who Amedeo is, is his infinite availability: we had a sudden problem at night and he did not back down, he helped us concretely and accompanied us to the hospital to resolve it. Finding him again after 14 years and discovering that his seriousness, his professionalism, and his heart have remained exactly those of the past is a rare certainty. In Italy, we contacted Amedeo about 3-4 months before leaving: he came to visit me at my bar thanks to some mutual acquaintances. As soon as we arrived in Watamu, we met up right away to plan the various excursions. We were pleasantly satisfied with everything. He was always very punctual: the car (or the tuk-tuk) was waiting for us outside the hotel every time to take us on our outings. For the safari, he sent his son Jay along with the driver Peter: a truly great, friendly, cheerful, and always available pair. For the blue safari, he sent his daughter to support us, and she was always sweet and helpful. Amedeo was available for any small need we had, always sending someone to pick us up even just for a simple trip. Amedeo is a 10 out of 10!!! Problems started as soon as we arrived in Kenya. The vehicle used for the transfer was in conditions that we found poor and not very reassuring. After loading the luggage, Amedeo walked away and we found ourselves surrounded by three people who insisted on getting a tip. A welcome that definitely got us off on the wrong foot. The transfer from Mombasa to Watamu was then, in our opinion, truly terrifying. The driver's driving was very dangerous and reckless, so much so that even our children were scared. For us, safety during a transfer should be an absolute priority. We had also organized several excursions with him, including safaris. The Blue Safari was overall quite positive, but even on that occasion we were asked to declare a false age for our children: our 9-year-old daughter was supposed to be 5 years old and our 13-year-old son 11. A request that we found absolutely dishonest and about which we did not feel comfortable. The same situation occurred again for the Tsavo/Taita safari, where we were again asked to lie about the children's ages. At the time of payment, moreover, we were faced with an additional cost of 260 euros, presented as a commission, which in our opinion had not been clearly agreed upon beforehand. We felt cheated and had the distinct feeling that the financial terms communicated initially were not those applied in the end. The excursion to Sardegna 2/Jacaranda was also a big disappointment for us. There were six of us, four adults and two children, and we paid 110 euros for the transfer. Once we arrived, we were dropped off at a beach facility and Amedeo did not even want to pay for sunbeds for everyone, trying to limit their number even though there were six of us. When we asked what the planned excursion actually included, we were told, in essence, that it included transportation and sunbeds. After dropping us off there, he left. Considering the local costs we incurred independently on other days, we considered the price paid to be absolutely disproportionate to the service received. During the safari, moreover, a stop at a Masai village was imposed on us. Once we arrived, we found ourselves in a situation where we had to pay 20 euros per person in cash for the visit. It had not been explained to us transparently that there would be this mandatory expense and we found ourselves in difficulty also because we did not have such a large sum of cash with us. Making the situation even worse was the way our complaints were handled: when we pointed out the problems encountered, we often had the feeling that Amedeo was being vague and not giving clear answers. Finally, even on the day of our departure, we had agreed on a meeting time of 6:30 AM and, when we left the villa, we found ourselves in front of a person we did not know and who had not been introduced to us beforehand. We do not know if they had been sent by Amedeo, but this episode also contributed to our feeling of a total lack of organization and communication. Ultimately, our experience was terrible in several respects: safety, price transparency, organization, excursion management, and communication. We felt repeatedly faced with situations that had already been decided and costs that had not been clearly explained to us. As far as we are concerned, we absolutely do not recommend it and would not use this service again. My experience with Jumbo Jumbo by Amedeo – A spasso con Amedeo was disappointing and below expectations. From the airport transfer, the vehicle did not seem particularly reassuring to me and the drive from Mombasa to Watamu was very reckless. I experienced the journey with anxiety, especially because of the presence of the children, who were frightened. During the Blue Safari and the Tsavo/Taita safari, we were asked to declare a different age for the children than their real one: a 9-year-old girl was supposed to appear as 5 years old and a 13-year-old boy as 11. A request that made me uncomfortable and that I found inappropriate. Even the visit to the Grand Canyon was handled in a disorganized way: only three tickets had been paid for, despite the fact that there were six of us and we had handed over the necessary money. We were therefore called back to clarify the situation, experiencing an episode that could have been avoided with greater attention. The excursion to Sardegna 2/Jacaranda, which cost 110 euros for the transfer, was limited to transport and sun loungers, with further difficulties in their management. Furthermore, the excursion to the Island of Love, which was part of the excursion package proposed by Amedeo, was ultimately never carried out. At Taita Hills, despite the booking having been made five months earlier, we were only informed upon our arrival that there was no availability in the stilt houses. We had to argue for a long time to manage to find an alternative solution. A situation that, considering how far in advance the booking had been made, left us particularly puzzled. The costs also left us dissatisfied: we were charged 260 euros in commission at the time of payment for the excursions, an amount that had not been clarified previously. Furthermore, during a safari, we only discovered once we arrived that the visit to a Masai village required a mandatory payment of 20 euros per person in cash. Later we learned that other people present inside had paid 15 euros, which left us even more puzzled. During the trip, I encountered several communication and organization problems. The responses to our requests were not always clear and, on the day of departure, we found a person we did not know in front of the villa, without having received any prior explanation. Overall, I remained dissatisfied with the management of security, excursions, bookings, costs, and communication. I expected greater clarity, attention, and organization, especially considering the trust placed in entrusting the organization of such an important part of our trip. That said, Kenya is a wonderful country and the people we met during the trip will certainly remain in our hearts. We organized the vacation between safari and sea in detail months before, and everything was honored upon our arrival. For the safari, he entrusted us to the driver Peter and guide Jay. With them, we were able to observe all the animals of the savanna and experience scenes from a documentary. We then moved to the sea, in Watamu, where he organized several excursions for us (Gede ruins, Garoda beach and blue safari, Marafa canyon, Island of Love). In Watamu, we came into contact with the wonderful local population. I recommend a trip to Kenya to everyone.
